FaceApp - despite the controversy there's a reason it is popular!

FaceApp is high in the ranks of then Google Play store at the moment, and despite the controversies of white-washing, there's a reason. In short, it's really fun, simple to use and an all round well-designed app that has some great filters and effects.
The purpose of the app is simple - simply load it up, take a photo, play with a few dials and then before you know it there's your desired outcome - whether it be a new gender, a younger self, an older self - etc. You name it - FaceApp can do it.
Check it out today, it's one of those apps well worth downloading and spending a few minutes with!

Facebook Messenger

Today's app is Facebook Messenger.

So, this is a strange one. Sure the Facebook app on android is OK, but with the new roll out of Facebook features (which I actually like), I feel there is a disconnect between the online and app versions which I just can't handle. Accordingly, I like loading up the mobile website wherever possible, and in practice, find it faster and more stable than the app!

This aside, one feature that has been missing (until now) on android from an official Facebook app, is a reliable integration of Facebook messaging. Often, messages wouldn't arrive, would take far too long to arrive, or once arrived, refuse to leave the inbox and keep appearing as new notifications.

As a solution (and I admit, it is a strange one) Facebook has released Facebook Messenger, a stand along app that ultimately does one thing, and one thing only - that is - give a user the ability to send and receive Facebook messages. In a perfect world, I would have like to see a completely revamped mobile app, but as this didn't happen, at least what we finally have is effecting push messaging for Facebook integrated into android (i.e. you receive a message, and you actually get it straight away, instead of whenever over the next 24 hrs your phone decides).

In some regards, the strategy to release Facebook Messenger as a stand alone app makes sense, and is obvious a direct competitor to services such as WhatsApp, iMessage (for iPhone), and Blackberry Messenger. So, will it work? Maybe. Like it or not, not having Facebook makes you a bit strange these days, and with the saturation of your friends in Facebook, it is now even easier to manage one off messages or group discussions on the go, rather than having to mess about with the website or unwieldy app. Also, although it should have worked from the beginning, the ability to finally get notifications (at least messaging ones) in real time is a major plus!

Overall, if you (A) have Facebook, and (B) are  an Android user, then you would be silly not to install this app. Like it or not, it works, and just makes things easier!

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Cosmic Cow

Today's app of the day is Cosmic Cow.

"Endless" games are very in vogue at the moment, whether it be endless running, endless jumping or endless flapping, there are plenty of ways to get unlimited, and challenging gaming fixes. That doesn't mean that there aren't great new games being created in the genre, with Cosmic Cow being one such example.

In essence, Cosmic Cow combines two great styles of game play, one being a side scrolling endless-type game, and the other being the classic side scrolling space ship shooter, popularised in numerous incarnations on 8 and 16 bit consoles of decades past. As a "cosmic cow" (can't help but love it!), the player has to navigate through space, shooting or dodging asteroids and other attacking spaceships. The cow can collect a variety of objects to earn points - though mainly interesting foods that just happen to be floating through space. As points are accumulated, the player can also collect coins to spend on a v…
