Air Control Lite

Today's app of the day is Air Control Lite.

If anyone has played Flight Control on iOS, then Air Control Lite should be no surprise, as at the end of the day it is pretty much an exact replica.

As with many replica's though, Air Control Lite is still a great quality application, and although it can no points for originality, it still is worthy of being downloaded and played by anyone with an android device. Of course, Flight Control has now made it's way to the android market, but for $2.99, Air Control Lite is still your best bet for an "runway management" game.

For the un-initiated to this form of game, I will hand over to the developer:

Control the air traffic, and help the air crafts safe to the ground
In this simple yet surprisingly addictive drawing game you take on the role of Air Traffic Controller. It is your job to direct airplanes to runways while avoiding collisions.
FEATURES
★ Classic game mode as well as the unique puzzle game mode
★ Online highscores
★ Countless hours of addictive gameplay
★ #1 Android air traffic controller game

Drop

Today's app of the day is Drop.

(Powered by LaunchBit)

Drop is one of the simplest games you find on the android market, yet is still great to play. Featuring nothing but tilt controls, the object of the game is to simply "drop" a red ball as far as you can down an endless array of levels.

There are other "ball drop" games on the market, but for a quick time filler it is hard to go past the Drop.

Wapedia: 4 Wikipedia & more!

Today's app of the day is Wapedia.

If you are one of those people who, when presented with an "unanswerable" questions at a dinner party immediately pull out a phone to discover the answer, then Wapedia is for you. For me, these questions are usually along the lines of "What city has a greater population?" or "What type of animal (reptile, mammal, etc) is a turtle?" (specific I know).

Of course Wikipedia if the first port of call to answer these questions, and Wapedia makes that a simple and intuitive task from your mobile phone. I realise there are lots of apps of out there that allow direct access to Wikipedia, and I admit I have not even tried a small percentage of them. For the time being however, I am using Wapedia and it seems to tick all the boxes, plus feature a few bonus features that the standard Wikipedia apps do not include.

As stated, the expected features of Wapedia include widgets, language support, the ability to view images, etc - pretty much all the things you would expect from a Wikipedia app. The "bonus" features though are what sets Wapedia apart, and primarily are due to the ability to search not just Wikipedia, but a variety of other "wikis" as well, including:
  • Wikiquote,
  • Uncyclopedia,
  • Wikitravel, and
  • a variety of wikis about games and TV shows
Wapedia also features a great home screen that allows quick access to news, random articles, features content, popular articles and more. So, if you like to have all the answers at your fingers tips, give Wapedia  a try!

Blast Monkeys

Today's app of the day is Blast Monkeys.

Blast Monkeys is a great, addicting game, and in my opinion is one of the best games for android devices.

In short, the object of Blast Monkeys is to launch your monkey (Moki) into a giant barrel of bananas, by launching through additional "single" bananas on your way to the larger bunch. The more bananas you hit on the way, the more points you get for that particular round.

Levels are short but challenging, and it is obvious in both design and level progression that Blast Monkeys has drawn a lot from Angry Birds. This isn't a problem though, as although Blast Monkeys shares some minor similar traits, these are primarily aesthetic. The gameplay on the other hand, although physics based (well, gravity based), is unique.

Stopping Moki from reaching the elusive bunch of bananas are solid obstacles, moving obstacles and additional canons. All in all, these obstacles make Blast Monkeys not only fun, but also challenging enough to keep you playing "just one more time".

All in all, Blast Monkeys is a great game, with bright colourful graphics, a large number of levels and gameplay perfect for short bursts of fun.

Mini Info

Today's app of the day is Mini Info.

Mini Info is a great app to allow you to quickly manage settings on your android device. There are plenty of apps out there that do similar things, with a number of them installed as default widgets on most android devices. Despite this, most widgets and apps always seem to be missing a few critical settings or options.

With Mini Info that is not a problem. Featuring a great widget to provide a quick view to the "status" oh your phone (battery level, cpu usage, etc), a quick click of Mini Info will take you to a simple screen allowing you to do two great things: (1) toggle settings with a quick tap (i.e. brightness, wi-fi, gps, timeout, etc) and (2) access the android menus for those actual settings with a long press.

Having the option to either quick toggle or to delve a bit deeper and access the android specific menus is a great feature of Mini Info that sets it apart from the plenitude of similar apps in the android market.

If this doesn't help you decide what to chose, maybe the following sources will. Trust me, the competition is fierce (strange for the dullest of all apps - note takers). I change regularly between what I use.
