Microsoft is actually a great Android developer - 'To-Do' is another reason why!

It may seem suprising to some, but Microsoft is actually a fantastic Android developer. In fact, I'd go as far to saythat their app offerings for Android are far superior to than their offerings for the Windows App store. For starters the full suite of Microsoft Office apps are great, as is one drive and one note, and the Arrow App Launcher is actually one of the best custom android skins available (seriously - check it out!).

To round this out, over the last few days Microsoft has released 'To-Do' which as you've guessed it - is a to-do list. It really could not be simpler - the app allows the creation of lists and then as part of each list allows tasks and items to be added.

The design is simple and clean, and a nice move away from the boxy interface design that still dominates some of the earlier Windows apps for android. It's fast, lightweight, cloud based (of course) and has a widget - so there is not much more you could ask for!

Of course there is lots of co…

TweetComb

Today's app of the day is TweetComb.

No doubt, if you have an android tablet, one of the first things you looked for it a twitter client (presuming you are a Twitter user). OF course, the official Twitter app isn't bad, but it isn't utilised for a tablet. In fact, you will probably quickly realise (as I did), that not many Twitter apps are utilised for the android tablet experience.

This aside, there is one app that fills this void perfectly. This app is TweetComb (i.e. Tweet + Honeycomb). TweetComb makes great use of the screen real-estate offered by android tablets, as you will see in the screenshots below. Broken into columns, you will quickly be able to see your timeline, mentions, direct messages, favorites and other customisations as you desire.

These features aside, TweetComb features all the other standard features you would expect from a Twitter client. In short, if you have an android tablet and are a Twitter user, TweetComb is really your only choice.

In the words of the developer:

TweetComb is a Twitter client designed and created exclusively for the Android Honeycomb platform. TweetComb gives you a tablet-friendly view of your Twitter timeline, mentions, direct messages, and more.
*** NOTE: You must have your date, time, timezone, and am/pm settings set up correctly on your device or Twitter will reject the authorization request. This application does work on every Honeycomb device. It will fail the authorization request with Twitter if these settings are set incorrectly, so please check them. ***
Features of TweetComb:
-- Interact with Twitter in a tablet-friendly way with the only Twitter experience designed for Honeycomb.
-- Read your timeline, mentions, and direct messages with three distinct fragments. Each fragment interacts with Twitter for updates independent of the others.
-- Background updates keep your information up to date on your tablet.
-- Configurable notifications alert you when new tweets, mentions, or direct messages are available.
-- You can easily see what's trending on Twitter and select each to do a search on the trending topic.
-- Stay up to date with the Twitter lists you've created with the new List tab.
-- Bit.ly support for link shortening.
-- TwitLonger support for tweets longer than 140 characters.
-- TweetComb provides an in-line preview of images from twitpic, yfrog, and plixi.
-- When clicking on a link from a tweet, you can view the web page from within TweetComb and can launch out to a browser on your tablet if you choose to.
-- View a user's public profile with an easy to use Profile tab.
-- A Search tab is available that gives you the opportunity to search by keyword, screen name, or hash tag.
-- Perform a Profile Search from an easy to access ActionBar item.
-- See a user's basic info, recent tweets, and publicly available favored tweets.
-- From the profile page, you can follow or unfollow other users.
-- When new tweets arrive, TweetComb will alert you with an audio clip.
-- TweetComb gives you an easy way to use and switch between multiple Twitter accounts.
-- From an individual tweet, you can view that user's profile, reply, retweet, retweet with edit, share, favorite, mark as spam, copy to clipboard, and send a direct message.
-- Quickly send status updates with full support for cut/copy/paste.
-- Support for sending and replying to direct messages inside the app.
-- TweetComb can be shared to from other apps such as the browser, Newsr, and others.

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Hearthstone - better late than never - the best android card game!

I'll cut to it - Hearthstone is one of the best games you can get for your Android device - in fact, I am sure that plenty of people would argue it is one of the best games you can get at all - even on a PC! With that in mind, there's no reason not to jump in now and start experiencing this great offering from Blizzard.
The gameplay is turn based card strategy, think Magic the Gathering, but fare more simple. Every turn the number of points you have to spend on cards increases, so it means that games start quite evenly handed but can escalate quickly, especially when more experienced players know how to string together the abilities of their cards.
The objective is to eliminate the health of your opponent - and once you succeed the victory is entirely satisfying, with some truly fantastic sounds and effects that drive home the sense of achievement. This is of course a free to play game, and it is possible to spend real world money in the store but it is not required to have …
