FaceApp - despite the controversy there's a reason it is popular!

FaceApp is high in the ranks of then Google Play store at the moment, and despite the controversies of white-washing, there's a reason. In short, it's really fun, simple to use and an all round well-designed app that has some great filters and effects.
The purpose of the app is simple - simply load it up, take a photo, play with a few dials and then before you know it there's your desired outcome - whether it be a new gender, a younger self, an older self - etc. You name it - FaceApp can do it.
Check it out today, it's one of those apps well worth downloading and spending a few minutes with!

Foursquare

Today's app of the day is Foursquare.

It is possible to "check in" in almost every social application around these days, but it worth reminding ourselves that the entire location based social networking phenomena was brought to the masses with Foursquare and Gowalla. With Gowalla recently being purchased by Facebook, it is therefore worth re-visiting one of the first, and also best location based social networking apps around.

In a nutshell, Foursquare allows you to "check in" to places you visit. The more times you check in, the greater the distances between check ins, and the variety of places you visit, will all give you points, which rank you in a leader board against your friends. If you check into a place the most, you will become "the mayor". Finally, all this activity earns collectibles in the form of "badges" - essentially simple electronic "rewards".

In the beginning, the purpose behind such a "game" was a vague concept, but with the popularity of Foursquare on the rise, many companies now offer discounts and other special promotions to the mayors of their establishments or for customers who simple can demonstrate they have "checked in" at the time of making their purchase.

In addition, Foursquare can be a great place to see pictures and tips / reviews from customers before trying a place. For android devices, the app behind Foursquare is slick, with a clean interface and all the features one could expect. If you haven't tried Foursquare yet, give it a go and see what you think. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but you might as well check it out!

If this is your sort of thing, Design degrees at online universities can teach you how to design and develop more advanced social applications.

In the words of the developer:

Foursquare helps you explore the world around you. Keep up with friends, get insider tips, and unlock discounts and rewards.
While on the go, you can easily tell friends where you are, share pictures, get their comments ("I'm right around the corner, I'll stop by to say hello"), and get insider tips ("order the Lobster Ravioli; it's the best dish by far."). Tons of places offer discounts and freebies to foursquare users, and you earn points and badges for doing the things you love.
Have fun exploring!

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Cosmic Cow

Today's app of the day is Cosmic Cow.

"Endless" games are very in vogue at the moment, whether it be endless running, endless jumping or endless flapping, there are plenty of ways to get unlimited, and challenging gaming fixes. That doesn't mean that there aren't great new games being created in the genre, with Cosmic Cow being one such example.

In essence, Cosmic Cow combines two great styles of game play, one being a side scrolling endless-type game, and the other being the classic side scrolling space ship shooter, popularised in numerous incarnations on 8 and 16 bit consoles of decades past. As a "cosmic cow" (can't help but love it!), the player has to navigate through space, shooting or dodging asteroids and other attacking spaceships. The cow can collect a variety of objects to earn points - though mainly interesting foods that just happen to be floating through space. As points are accumulated, the player can also collect coins to spend on a v…
