FaceApp - despite the controversy there's a reason it is popular!

FaceApp is high in the ranks of then Google Play store at the moment, and despite the controversies of white-washing, there's a reason. In short, it's really fun, simple to use and an all round well-designed app that has some great filters and effects.
The purpose of the app is simple - simply load it up, take a photo, play with a few dials and then before you know it there's your desired outcome - whether it be a new gender, a younger self, an older self - etc. You name it - FaceApp can do it.
Check it out today, it's one of those apps well worth downloading and spending a few minutes with!

Shadowgun and Frontline Commando

Today's apps of the day are Shadowgun and Frontline Commando.

Given that I missed recommending an app yesterday, today I will recommend two - both great shooters with "close to console" quality graphics and game play, but both operating in very different manner.

Shadowgun

First up, is Shadowgun - a Gears of War inspire space commando shooter. Specifically made for Tegra 2 and 3 devices, the first thing that will impress you about this game is the amazing graphics. On my Desire HD, this game looks great, but on my Asus Prime, it steps up the par for android graphics. This shouldn't come as any surprise, as the Prime is a powerful piece of hardware, but it is exciting to see that gap between tablets and consoles close even further!

Without good game play however, Shadowgun wouldn't be worth it's download. Luckily, the controls are tight, the shooting fun, the AI impressive and overall experience engrossing. If you are a fan of third person, cover based shooters, then I am sure you will be impressed by Shadowgun.

In the words of the developer:

Frontline Commando
Next is Frontline Commando. Again, another third person shooter. The Primary difference between Frontline Commando and Shadowgun though, is that the controls in are simplified due to the "on-rails" nature of the gameplay. Instead of controlling both movement and shooting, Frontline Commando focuses more on the shooting, with movement limited to rolls or dashes between various points of cover, either left or right.

Whilst some may feel restricted by the lack of control, I actually enjoyed it, as it gave me greater time focus on taking down enemies, and soaking up the amazing graphics, without flailing around trying to master the touch equivalent of dual analogue. Although Shadowgun achieved this control quite well, it is refreshing being able to take a step back and let the CPU do some of the hard work for you!

In the words of the developer:

ONE MAN. ONE WAR. YOU ARE THE FRONTLINE COMMANDO.
As the sole surviving Commando of a renegade attack against a ruthless dictator, you are stranded on the frontline and hell-bent on payback. You must use all of your specialized skills to survive the onslaught of the enemy forces and avenge your fallen soldiers.

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Cosmic Cow

Today's app of the day is Cosmic Cow.

"Endless" games are very in vogue at the moment, whether it be endless running, endless jumping or endless flapping, there are plenty of ways to get unlimited, and challenging gaming fixes. That doesn't mean that there aren't great new games being created in the genre, with Cosmic Cow being one such example.

In essence, Cosmic Cow combines two great styles of game play, one being a side scrolling endless-type game, and the other being the classic side scrolling space ship shooter, popularised in numerous incarnations on 8 and 16 bit consoles of decades past. As a "cosmic cow" (can't help but love it!), the player has to navigate through space, shooting or dodging asteroids and other attacking spaceships. The cow can collect a variety of objects to earn points - though mainly interesting foods that just happen to be floating through space. As points are accumulated, the player can also collect coins to spend on a v…
