FaceApp - despite the controversy there's a reason it is popular!

FaceApp is high in the ranks of then Google Play store at the moment, and despite the controversies of white-washing, there's a reason. In short, it's really fun, simple to use and an all round well-designed app that has some great filters and effects.
The purpose of the app is simple - simply load it up, take a photo, play with a few dials and then before you know it there's your desired outcome - whether it be a new gender, a younger self, an older self - etc. You name it - FaceApp can do it.
Check it out today, it's one of those apps well worth downloading and spending a few minutes with!

Grab Radio

Today's app of the day is Grab Radio***UPDATE: has temporarily been removed from the app store***

Grab Radio is a fantastic app for music and podcast lovers, right across the globe. In short, Garb Radio allows Android users to seamlessly stream over 30,000 radio stations to their device for on-the-go entertainment.

It is easy to find stations, with a variety of categories available for browsing. Within seconds I was listening to my favourite local stations, with buffer times faster than even the native apps for some stations. Sound quality was also great. It didn't take long before I started browsing some overseas stations. Whether it is middle-eastern techo, or British alt rock, there is absolutely something for everyone to listen to using Grab Radio.

Finally, there are a few little "extras" that make Grab Music a great experience. One of these is built in Shazam functionality, making recognition of tracks hassle free. In addition, Grab Radio allows users to easily &qu…

Yesterday's app of the day was Flud News.

Flud News is a great new reader for android devices (though it is only currently customised for phones, not tablets). Smart Tools

Today’s app of the day is Smart Tools.

Smart Tools is the Swiss-army-knife of android apps, providing a number of great tools for mobile
users. Included under the hood are roughly nine separate apps, allowing to you measure length and
angles, distances, direction (compasses) and sound and vibration.

What makes Smart Tools unique is the smart way it utilises your smart phones camera. With the
distance measurer for example, you simply turn on your camera, aim at a target, and using basic
geometry, your phone will tell you the distance to that object.

Other interesting apps include a vibration tester (allegedly the force on my desk by my keyboard
typing is equivalent to a category 1 earthquake) and a decibel counter (my typing is equivalent to a
Busy street or an alarm clock at 80dB!), as well as a metal detector.

All in all, Smart Tools is a great utility to have installed on your device, which will likely come in handy when you least expect it!

In the words of the developer:

You can measure length…

50,000 visitors and counting - Thanks!

It seems that it is a popular trend for blogs to celebrate important milestones. In keeping this tradition alive, Droid App of the Day is celebrating it's 50,000th visitor today (50,093 at the time of writing). Not bad considering Droid App of the Day only went live on 4 October 2011.

I'd like to thank everyone for supporting this site since its inception, for leaving comments and feedback and for providing me with suggestions for great new Android apps. I only hope you have found Droid App of the Day useful and that you keep coming back!

Today, instead of recommending a new single app, I will break with tradition and suggest two great older apps, to help you keep updated with what is available on Android Play. Download these and you will never be short of new  things to do on your Android device.

The first app I recommend is the official Droid App of the Day Android application You can read a detailed description here. The second app I recommend is BAM: Best Android Market. You c…

Best Apps Market (BAM)

Today's app of the day is Best Apps Market (BAM)

If you are addicted to new apps and new games and you download mostly free ones, you may want to start using Best Apps Market instead of resorting directly to Google Play. It's a great tool to discover new apps and, unlike the Google Play, it's all about the FREE ones!

Five great free android apps – Andalytics, Scramble with Friends, Angry Birds in Space, Google Tasks Organizer and Go Locker

As is becoming a trend, I had a busy weekend and did not recommend any apps. Accordingly, here are five in a single hit! Andlytics
Today’s first app of the day is Andlytics.
Andlytics is a great app for anyone who publishes to the android market (i.e. myself – through the official Droid App of the Day and Top of The Web applications). If you do have an app in the market, then it is useful to be able to easily check how many downloads you get over a particular time period, plus how many of those users actually keep the app installed on their device (which is often a disappointing statistic!)
In addition, Andlytics is a great way to keep track of comments and star rankings for apps, with this quickly accessible with the click of a finger. Finally, Andlytics features AdMob integration, allowing you to easily keep track of how much is being earned from in-app advertising.
All in all, if you are an android publisher and want quick, on-the-go access to your publishing stats, then Andlytics i…
