Microsoft is actually a great Android developer - 'To-Do' is another reason why!

It may seem suprising to some, but Microsoft is actually a fantastic Android developer. In fact, I'd go as far to saythat their app offerings for Android are far superior to than their offerings for the Windows App store. For starters the full suite of Microsoft Office apps are great, as is one drive and one note, and the Arrow App Launcher is actually one of the best custom android skins available (seriously - check it out!).

To round this out, over the last few days Microsoft has released 'To-Do' which as you've guessed it - is a to-do list. It really could not be simpler - the app allows the creation of lists and then as part of each list allows tasks and items to be added.

The design is simple and clean, and a nice move away from the boxy interface design that still dominates some of the earlier Windows apps for android. It's fast, lightweight, cloud based (of course) and has a widget - so there is not much more you could ask for!

Of course there is lots of co…

AdSense Dashboard

Today's app of the day is AdSense Dashboard.

If you run a website or write a blog, there is a distinct possibility you use Google AdSense to try and earn a little extra pocket money from that endeavour. I surely do (hence the ads on the side of your screen and below posts). Typically, when a user clicks an add, the owner (i.e. Me!) will receive anywhere from 5 cents to $2 per click through. In short, the higher the Click Through Rate (CTR), the more money a site owner can make.

Once you have a website and have added a few AdSense Ads, it is quite addictive keeping track of your sites statistics to see how much you have earn't. I know I find myself doing it at least every single day, usually multiple times (and the results are ALWAYS disappointing!).

Google have created a quick mobile version of their AdSense site, but it doesn't quite give me all the information I want, as quickly as I want it. Enter AdSense Dashboard. With the press of a screen, or the flick of a finger, I can now quickly see exactly how much I have earn't in a day, and scroll through all the useful statistics for my site. And if I can do it, so should you, as this is a real time saver. Trust me!

Featuring as great widget and a simple, intuitive interface, AdSense Dashboard contains everything you would want from an an AdSense App. All in all, if you use Google Adwords and own an android device, then you would be crazy not to have AdSense Dashboard installed.

In the words of the developer:

A secure, read-only dashboard view of the performance of your AdSense account.
Provides a heads-up overview over critical AdSense performance metrics, including CPM, CTR, page views, clicks, and estimated revenue, in easily-digestible form. Includes a desktop widget showing today's vital statistics.
Uses Google's AdSense Management API to provide a secure, read-only view of your data.
Supports phones with large screens, tablets, and now Google TV (for those that want an always-on dashboard for their office).
Provides most of the content of the AdSense home page and the default report.
To use this application you must:
- Have a working, stable network connection (known bug)
- Have an existing AdSense account
- Have the Google Account associated with that account configured as an account on your phone.
Crashes are *not* common - but if you see one, please email me. I can't fix if you don't help, and a comment here isn't a bug report - I can't get useful problem logs because it's sensitive data, so I can't find and fix bugs without an email from *you*.
Send problem reports to gblock@ctoforaday.com and I'll fix them as fast as is humanly possible.
Known issues:
- You can't change currency. (We show your AdSense account's currency.)
Features to come:
- Single-fact 1x1 widget

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Hearthstone - better late than never - the best android card game!

I'll cut to it - Hearthstone is one of the best games you can get for your Android device - in fact, I am sure that plenty of people would argue it is one of the best games you can get at all - even on a PC! With that in mind, there's no reason not to jump in now and start experiencing this great offering from Blizzard.
The gameplay is turn based card strategy, think Magic the Gathering, but fare more simple. Every turn the number of points you have to spend on cards increases, so it means that games start quite evenly handed but can escalate quickly, especially when more experienced players know how to string together the abilities of their cards.
The objective is to eliminate the health of your opponent - and once you succeed the victory is entirely satisfying, with some truly fantastic sounds and effects that drive home the sense of achievement. This is of course a free to play game, and it is possible to spend real world money in the store but it is not required to have …
