Microsoft is actually a great Android developer - 'To-Do' is another reason why!

It may seem suprising to some, but Microsoft is actually a fantastic Android developer. In fact, I'd go as far to saythat their app offerings for Android are far superior to than their offerings for the Windows App store. For starters the full suite of Microsoft Office apps are great, as is one drive and one note, and the Arrow App Launcher is actually one of the best custom android skins available (seriously - check it out!).

To round this out, over the last few days Microsoft has released 'To-Do' which as you've guessed it - is a to-do list. It really could not be simpler - the app allows the creation of lists and then as part of each list allows tasks and items to be added.

The design is simple and clean, and a nice move away from the boxy interface design that still dominates some of the earlier Windows apps for android. It's fast, lightweight, cloud based (of course) and has a widget - so there is not much more you could ask for!

Of course there is lots of co…

Four Android apps in one day - eCoffeeCard, LinkedIn, Smartr Contacts and Switch Pro Widget

Well, I have missed doing an update for four days, so today, I will be recommending four apps. They are:

1. eCoffeeCard
2. LinkedIn
3. Smartr Contacts
4. Switch Pro Widget

The first app of the day is eCoffeeCard.

eCoffeeCard is an Australian app (hey, I'm Australian, so I figured on a day with four recommendation, one local app wouldn't hurt) that is designed to remove the multiple coffee loyalty cards you likely carry around in your wallet.

Using eCoffeeCard, once you get to a store, you can buy your coffee then scan a QR code they have available. eCoffeeCard will keep track of how many coffees you have had at particular venues, and notify you when you have reached enough for a free cup.

With the number of supporting cafe's growing daily, eCoffeeCard is will worth the install if you notice your local cafe is on board.

In the words of the developer:

eCoffeeCard App - Grounds for Reward!
Too many loyalty Coffee Cards? With eCoffeeCard app, keep them all in one secure and convenient place on your Phone.

The second app of the day is LinkedIn.

As you may have heard, LinkedIn has been growing its user base in leaps and bounds over the last number of months. As the popularity has grown, so has the sophistication of its mobile website, and also its official app.  LinkedIn allows you to keep up to date with all the latest news from your LinkedIn groups and friends, giving you all the essential features of the fully fledged website.

Overall, if you are a  LinkedIn user, give the app a try.

In the words of the developer:

For Professionals Going Places
Get on-the-go access to your professional network with LinkedIn for Android. Find and connect with more than 135M members worldwide, read the latest industry news, keep up-to-date with your groups, and share content with your network from anywhere.

Smartr Contacts

The third app of the day is Smartr Contacts.

Smartr Contacts is essentially a replacement for the stock android contact list or "people" app. Once Smartr Contacts is installed, browsing through contacts is no longer a chore. Best of all, Smartr Contacts features some great additions that go beyond the stock contact list, including a history of your relationship with a person. using Gmail, your social networks and your SMS history, you cans ee your relationship with a person at a glance and keep track of all the correspondence to date. I am not sure of the usefulness of the function, but it is definitively interesting.

Smartr Contacts also includes a "popular contacts" feature, making it easy to quickly call, email or SMS the most prominent people in your life. Smartr Contacts is a great app, so install it and kiss goodbye the standard android contact list.

In the words of the developer:

What if you had a magic address book that automatically identified the name and contact information for everyone you'd ever communicated with?

Switch Pro Widget

The fourth app of the day is Switch Pro Widget.

Switch Pro Widget is the mother of all widgets, allowing you to easily create a widget bar featuring as few, or as many toggles as you wish. I am yet to see a power control widget that can be extensive as Switch Pro Widget, so even at 99 cents, it is a step up from many of the free options available.

As you will seen from the screen shots below, there are plenty of ways that Switch Pro Widget can be configured, so give it a go and create the best widget for your own person needs.

In the words of the developer:

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Hearthstone - better late than never - the best android card game!

I'll cut to it - Hearthstone is one of the best games you can get for your Android device - in fact, I am sure that plenty of people would argue it is one of the best games you can get at all - even on a PC! With that in mind, there's no reason not to jump in now and start experiencing this great offering from Blizzard.
The gameplay is turn based card strategy, think Magic the Gathering, but fare more simple. Every turn the number of points you have to spend on cards increases, so it means that games start quite evenly handed but can escalate quickly, especially when more experienced players know how to string together the abilities of their cards.
The objective is to eliminate the health of your opponent - and once you succeed the victory is entirely satisfying, with some truly fantastic sounds and effects that drive home the sense of achievement. This is of course a free to play game, and it is possible to spend real world money in the store but it is not required to have …
