Microsoft is actually a great Android developer - 'To-Do' is another reason why!

It may seem suprising to some, but Microsoft is actually a fantastic Android developer. In fact, I'd go as far to saythat their app offerings for Android are far superior to than their offerings for the Windows App store. For starters the full suite of Microsoft Office apps are great, as is one drive and one note, and the Arrow App Launcher is actually one of the best custom android skins available (seriously - check it out!).

To round this out, over the last few days Microsoft has released 'To-Do' which as you've guessed it - is a to-do list. It really could not be simpler - the app allows the creation of lists and then as part of each list allows tasks and items to be added.

The design is simple and clean, and a nice move away from the boxy interface design that still dominates some of the earlier Windows apps for android. It's fast, lightweight, cloud based (of course) and has a widget - so there is not much more you could ask for!

Of course there is lots of co…

Instagram for Android - Finally!

Today's app of the Instagram.

Unless you haven't read a paper, watched the news or picked up your smartphone over the last two weeks, you would all likely be aware that after years of waiting, Instagram has finally arrived on Android! On top of this, only days ago Facebook acquired Instagram for the neat sum of $1 billion USD, spawning Gen's Y everywhere to begin dreaming up new app ideas in the hope to become the next acquisition.

So was the wait worth it? In my opinion - Yes. There have of course been, and continue to be, countless Instagram competitors and imitators on Android. Great examples include apps such as PicPlz, which not only work well, but also feature far more variety in their effects than Instagram. So what makes Instagram worth the wait? In my opinion it is the community. With other photo sharing apps, even after connecting all my social networks I still usually only have one or two friends with the same app installed, and usually no friends who actually use it on a regulated basis. In contrast, after seconds of having Instragram installed I was connected with roughly 50 friends (acquaintances maybe?), and the community is definitely active.

I am sure that many of you reading this may also have SLR cameras, or are even a passionate point and click photographer. If so, you should Click Here! to check out an amazing eBook about trick photography and special effects - it is truly impressive stuff!

In a similar vein, although the effects available are limited, It deficiently adds to the simplicity of the app, which I think is one of the reasons it has become so popular. There really is not much to it, simply take a photo, apply a comment, add a filter and before you know it your done. There is no messing about with complicated upload systems. Instagram simply works, and it works quickly. On top of it, the limited effects available look great!

If you feel the need to get into a new social network this year, then Instagram would be my first choice. With the Android community growing at a dramatic pace, I would not be surprised if iPhone users quickly became the minority! At the end of the day, it doesn't really both me if Android users or iPhone users are posting pics, as long as the pics they post look good, and as long as I can browse, comment, follow and interact with users easily. Instrgram ticks all these boxes, and for these reasons is well worth the install.

In the words of the developers:

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Hearthstone - better late than never - the best android card game!

I'll cut to it - Hearthstone is one of the best games you can get for your Android device - in fact, I am sure that plenty of people would argue it is one of the best games you can get at all - even on a PC! With that in mind, there's no reason not to jump in now and start experiencing this great offering from Blizzard.
The gameplay is turn based card strategy, think Magic the Gathering, but fare more simple. Every turn the number of points you have to spend on cards increases, so it means that games start quite evenly handed but can escalate quickly, especially when more experienced players know how to string together the abilities of their cards.
The objective is to eliminate the health of your opponent - and once you succeed the victory is entirely satisfying, with some truly fantastic sounds and effects that drive home the sense of achievement. This is of course a free to play game, and it is possible to spend real world money in the store but it is not required to have …

UNCHARTED: Fortune Hunter - continue Drake's adventure on your phone!

It's been a while now since Uncharted 4 was released though to date it is still one of the best games on the PS4. At the time of its release, a lot of people might not have noticed that an Android entry into the Uncharted series was also released. Now I'm late to the party on this one but I think it's well worth checking out - better late than never!

The game is in the style of the 'Go' games that are really popular, such as Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go. The gameplay sees you move from square to square on a map trying to unlock a series of objectives or reach a destination. It's a polished game with great sound, graphics and gameplay. Strongly recommended!
