Magic Piano is a great free game for your phone or tablet. At it's core, Magic Piano is a rhythm based music game (e.g. Guitar Hero or Rock Band), but instead of tapping away at a virtual guitar, players use their devices screen to play a piano. The concept is simple - all a player has to do is touch dots of lights as they flow down the screen. Each touch corresponds roughly to where the note would sit on a piano (if it was squashed onto the screen of your device). Timing is everything, with players not receiving as many points if they tap at the wrong time.
The execution of Magic Piano is brilliant. The sound is crisp, and the experience strangely does make the player feel like that are mastering the works of Beethoven after minutes of practice. In addition, the library of songs is constantly growing - meaning there will definitely be something for everyone to tap away at - from the classics to more contemporary piano music (my favourite would have to be the Jurassic Park theme song!)
In addition to a competitive game, Magic Piano also includes "free play" which allows users to play a full virtual piano on their screen. This really is quite an amazing experience, as with a multi-touch device the ability to play real songs is possible - I have already given chopsticks a good run through. With a tablet, free mode really shines. I would not be surprised if videos of people playing real, full piano songs on magic Piano started popping up online (actually, a quick search has revealed this is already happening)!
All in all, Magic Piano is a fantastic game, that really impressed me. Give it a go, I am sure you too will be impressed.

Please note:
1) While you can use your existing Smule account with Magic Piano on Android, the content of the apps differ substantially, and consequently songs and Smoola are not shared between iOS and Android. Thank you for your understanding.
2) For some devices where we know there are issues, we have restricted installs for now. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S II has audio bugs in the phone itself that make the Magic Piano experience... well, not so magical. However, Android hardware and software are constantly improving so if we are able to support some of these devices in the future we absolutely will!
