Alchemy Classic HD (lets just call it Alchemy) is a great free game from developers NIAsoft. The concept of Alchemy is simply, yet the depth and size of the game is surprisingly large. In short, you start off with four simple "elements" being fire, water, earth and air. Your challenge then is to combine the different elements (by simply dragging and dropping them on top of each other). Some new elements are created with a combination of just two elements, but others require more complex concoctions.
The satisfaction you get from discovering a new element is surprisingly large! For the first few minutes you will easily create 10 or so new elements through basic trial and error, but following this "easing in" period, you will really be required to think about how to expand your element list. Luckily, the game provides you the names of all the elements that you can create with your currently available portfolio, but this in no way makes the challenge easier.
Usually, once you create a new element, it is blindingly obvious how it should have been created, and you will often kick yourself for not thinking of the obvious sooner! Luckily, if you get stuck you can purchase hints (using an in game currency you earn by making new elements, or which can be purchased using real money) as to the unlocking of additional objects.
Finally, as the game progresses things will really start to take you by surprise. Once the basic suite of objects and elements is unlocked, you will begin to unlock and discover every day objects, from simple things like hour glasses, right up to steam trains and engineers facilities! This is where you will really need to start thinking creatively in order to progress.
All in all, Alchemy Classic HD is a great looking game, with simple controls, addictive and deep gameplay, and a concept that will be an entirely new experience for most gamers. Well worth the download!
