Hungry Slimes is a unique new game from Annahid Games which offers something a bit different for fans of physics based puzzlers to experience. The game play is simple, yet challenging enough to keep you coming back for more.



Hungry Slimes sees you take control of a ball of "slime" which you have to stretch and launch (in a catapult style, reminiscent of Angry Birds) - the further you stretch back the slime, the further and faster it will travel. Once stretched, the slime is 'charged' and will sail through the air, exploding after a short period of time (1.25 seconds to be exact). On exploding, the ball of slime produces a visible shock wave which destroys other 'slime balls' within it's range, and pushes those out of range further away.

The goal of the game is to stop a variety of slime balls (arranged in various formations) from sliding down the screen by causing them to explode before they hit the bottom. The types of slime balls you have to defend against increase in difficulty as the game progresses, starting with normal balls, to shielded balls, and eventually to slime balls that eat other slime balls in their path and grow in size.

The variety of slime balls add obvious variety to the game, but also increase the difficultly. One great thing about Hungry Slimes is the level of difficulty. I have found recently that many mobile games are far too easy, and although Hungry Slimes eases you in, it does not waste time with increasing the difficulty. This is good, because as far as I am concerned, a bit of a challenge is a good thing!

What also sets the game apart is the speed. Other catapult based puzzle games have no real sense of urgency, as you can usually take as long as you want lining up shots. Hungry Slimes throws this sense of relaxation away and forces the player to think quickly, as shots need to be made (and made accurately) in order to stop the slime balls reaching the bottom of the screen and taking away vital lives.

There are two basic game modes. The first is "Survival" where your objective is to progress through as many levels as possible before a certain number of slime balls reach the bottom of the screen. The second mode (which is only available in the full paid version of the app) is Time Challenge, which involves the same levels as the Survival mode, but instead of losing lives when slime balls reach the bottom of the screen, 5 seconds is taken off your play time (which starts at ten minutes). Your objective is therefore to progress as far as you can in a time limit, in contrast to the life limit of Survival mode.

The graphics are simple but effective, the sounds likewise, which when combined are entirely complimentary to the game play. There are also a set of achievements or awards to unlock for completing particularly tough challenges.  All this combines to make Hungry Slimes a unique puzzle game for Android devices that is well worth the install.
