Microsoft is actually a great Android developer - 'To-Do' is another reason why!

It may seem suprising to some, but Microsoft is actually a fantastic Android developer. In fact, I'd go as far to saythat their app offerings for Android are far superior to than their offerings for the Windows App store. For starters the full suite of Microsoft Office apps are great, as is one drive and one note, and the Arrow App Launcher is actually one of the best custom android skins available (seriously - check it out!).

To round this out, over the last few days Microsoft has released 'To-Do' which as you've guessed it - is a to-do list. It really could not be simpler - the app allows the creation of lists and then as part of each list allows tasks and items to be added.

The design is simple and clean, and a nice move away from the boxy interface design that still dominates some of the earlier Windows apps for android. It's fast, lightweight, cloud based (of course) and has a widget - so there is not much more you could ask for!

Of course there is lots of co…

ReNotify

Today's app of the day is ReNotify.

ReNotify is a unique, super fast notifications maker. In short, ReNotify allows users take their phone out of their pocket, set a reminder, and put their phone away again literally as quick as you read this sentence. ReNotify has got over 10,000 downloads in less than 3 weeks since release, and has hundreds of great user ratings, averaging 4.8 stars, so it is a safe bet that you won't be disappointed with this download.

What sets ReNotify apart from the the competition (the 1000's of other task managers available), is that upon creating a task (which literally, takes only a few seconds), an icon appears on the status bar of your device. When the status bar is expanded, you can then see all your current notifications.

Clearing a task is as simple as clicking on the notificiation, and adding a new task is as simple as either (a) opening the app, or (b) clicking on the 'add new note' icon which you can also set to appear in the drop down menu. In essence  this is an extremely effective, but amazingly simple implementation of the "tie a rope around your finger" or "note on the back of hand" form of 'task reminder' that humans have been enhancing for centuries.

ReNotify beats the competition at this simple role by keep current notifications active in your status bar, making them easier to remember and harder to forget. All in all, this is an excellent android app which now has a permanent place on my Android device.

In the words of the developer:

ReNotify Speed Notification Maker
ReNotify allows you to set notification reminders ridiculously fast when you're on the go. You can take your phone out, set a reminder, and put it back in your pocket quicker than you read this sentence, seriously.
Put the app on your home screen on lock screen, and all you have to do is open it, immediately type your message and press a button, and your reminder will be waiting for you next time you look at your phone.
Unlike other quick notes apps, ReNotify allows you to view, dismiss, or add more notes instantly from anywhere on your device via the notification tray. You will also see a reminder icon in the status bar the instant you turn the screen on.
Unlike other notification apps, ReNotify’s focus is on speed. No complicated options, no choosing icons, just a lightning fast process that allows you to leave yourself a reminder in literally four or five seconds.
ReNotify has a clean and simple UI, is free from ads, and takes up virtually no memory.

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Hearthstone - better late than never - the best android card game!

I'll cut to it - Hearthstone is one of the best games you can get for your Android device - in fact, I am sure that plenty of people would argue it is one of the best games you can get at all - even on a PC! With that in mind, there's no reason not to jump in now and start experiencing this great offering from Blizzard.
The gameplay is turn based card strategy, think Magic the Gathering, but fare more simple. Every turn the number of points you have to spend on cards increases, so it means that games start quite evenly handed but can escalate quickly, especially when more experienced players know how to string together the abilities of their cards.
The objective is to eliminate the health of your opponent - and once you succeed the victory is entirely satisfying, with some truly fantastic sounds and effects that drive home the sense of achievement. This is of course a free to play game, and it is possible to spend real world money in the store but it is not required to have …
