Spotify

Today's app of the day is Spotify.

Spotify is the future of music. After being skeptical at first, I am now convinced that traditional MP3 downloads will quickly become a thing of the past, and instant access to almost every song every recorded is the way of the future. In fact, the future is already here.

With Spotify, you have access to over 15 million tracks no matter where you are, so long as you have a data connection available. The desktop application is quite amazing, and has become my music player of choice. Although the android app is missing a few features (such as application support, radio, etc), it is still a fantastic app, giving you access to more music than a person could listen to in a  lifetime, all for free!

In the words of the developer:

Spotify brings millions of tracks to Android. Your music is always with you.
Get free access to Spotify Premium now! With Premium you'll get access to 15 million tracks from thousands of albums and artists on your Android device. If you haven’t tried Premium before, you can try it on your mobile for 48-hours, completely free. You don’t even have to enter credit card details. Simply download this app and log in*.
If 48-hours isn’t enough, you can extend your trial by 30 days by following the details in the email we send you when you log in.

Riptide GP

Today's app of the day is Riptide GP.

If you are after a console quality gaming experience on your tablet, then you can not go past Riptide GP. The graphics in this game are up there with the ps3 in terms of quality, and the gameplay is equally as high. To think that this game can be purchased for 99cents (currently on sale), when a console equivalent would cost 50 times more, is outrageous and really signifies the challenge that more traditional developers are going to face in the future as mobile gaming becomes more sophisticated!

Anyway, that aside, the best way of describing Riptide GP, is essentially to take Wipeout and mix it with Waverace. What you end up with is a fast paced, action packed jet skiing game, that is never short of great, challenging moments.

Turn off tilt control the moment you get this game - in my opinion the only way to play it is by traditional touch based steering on the right and left side of the screen.

In the words of the developer:

The premier console-quality water racing game for mobile.
=== This week only! Riptide GP is ON SALE! ===
=== Here's Why: http://BecauseWeMay.com ===
Riptide GP is the first ever console-quality water racing game for mobile, featuring super-realistic water physics, real-time reflections (dual core only), and gorgeous high-detail vehicles and environments.
Rev up your supercharged jet ski and take a wild ride through twisting canals and rivers, futuristic cityscapes, and mysterious research facilities. Skill, stunts, and speed will be your best allies as you grab massive air off huge waves, kick out death-defying tricks, and boost your jet ski to victory across a dynamic, ever-changing torrent of foam and spray.

RIPTIDE GP ENHANCED FOR TEGRA 3!
The quad-core power of NVIDIA's Tegra 3 superchip has enabled us to add even more detail and excitement to the Riptide GP experience.  Tegra 3 players get extra-high-detailed normal-mapped waves, realistic water splashes on the camera, and a dramatic motion blur effect when boosting.  Riptide GP looks even better thanks to the power of Tegra 3!

COMPATIBILITY NOTES:
Please note that Riptide GP is a processor intensive game, and requires a high-end smartphone or tablet for optimal performance.
If you do encounter a problem running the game on your device, please email the device you're using, Android OS version, and a detailed description to support@vectorunit.com, instead of just leaving it in comments. We actually respond to our support emails, and if we can't fix your problem we'll give you a refund.

App Empire

These days, there is pretty much an app for everything. In fact, there aren't many online services, popular websites, companies or brands that don't have at least some form of presence in online app stores. Even Droid App of the Day has an Official App!

So why are mobile apps so popular? The obvious reason, is that it helps promote your product or service to a wider audience, but secondly, because it can be quite profitable. Because of this, there are now more "appreneurs" than every trying to get a slice of the "pie" and get rich from the exploding app market.

A great example of this is Chad Mureta - an app store millionaire. Chad has created over 46 apps that have been downloaded more than 35 million times worldwide. So could his success be replicated? In short, the answer is Yes, and as far as Chad is concerned, success can come from simply following a system.

If you are interested in learning more about this system, a great new website called App Empire has recently launched. Through a series of videos, Chad will guide you through his system, and hopefully teach you the secrets of being successful in online app stores. The first video is free to watch, and trust me, it has me waiting for the second!

So if you are interested in breaking into the world of online app development, and want to get ahead of the competition, then head over to App Empire, sign up and let your app development journey begin.

My Book Droid

Today's app of the day is My Book Droid.

If you read a lot of books, then no doubt you have experienced the difficulty of remembering whether you have read a book in the past, or where in a series you are up to. if you take it a step further and read multiple books at the same time, then often simply remembering what you have started and where you are up to can be challenging (particularly if you are reading across multiple electronic platforms - i.e. tablets, phones and e-readers that don't all sync).

(Powered by LaunchBit)

If this sounds familiar, then My Book Droid is a great app for you. In short, it allows you to keep track of what you have read, what you are currently reading, and what you want to read in the future. Once installed, books can be easily added, and if they are located on the goodreads.com library, you will be able to see and read reviews. The app will also recommend books based on your previous reads.

If you have the dedication to input all the books you have read (or can remember reading), you will be able to kiss goodbye walking into a bookstore and not being able to remember what you have read. A great app.

In the words of the developer":

*THIS ISN'T A BOOK READER*
MyBookDroid helps you to find and keep track of
-books you have read
-books you want to read/buy
-books you are reading
*** Features ***
- Reviews from GoodReads.com library
- Find similar books
- Price Comparison from the following stores:
---- BookDepository

Textgram

Today's app of the day is Textgram.

The best way to describe, is to take Instragram, but then instead of taking and uploading pictures using a variety of creative filters, Textgram allows you to create short and sharp notes on "post it" shaped squares, then upload and share them across a variety of networks / apps

Ironically, once a Textgram has been created, it can be shared on Instagram, but they can also be used for a variety of other purposes, such as blogs, MMS messages, emails, etc. Check out my first "textgram" (above) created using Textgram and then uploaded to Instagram where I added a border.

All in all, this isn't the sort of app that will be used every day, but it sure has its uses.

In the words of the developer:

Create beautiful graffitis and share them with your friends on Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, etc.. or save them in your gallery.
