FaceApp - despite the controversy there's a reason it is popular!

FaceApp is high in the ranks of then Google Play store at the moment, and despite the controversies of white-washing, there's a reason. In short, it's really fun, simple to use and an all round well-designed app that has some great filters and effects.
The purpose of the app is simple - simply load it up, take a photo, play with a few dials and then before you know it there's your desired outcome - whether it be a new gender, a younger self, an older self - etc. You name it - FaceApp can do it.
Check it out today, it's one of those apps well worth downloading and spending a few minutes with!

Find This Movie

Today's app of the day is Find This Movie.

Find This Movie is a great app that will surely appeal to movie buffs out there. It is intended to quickly allow users to get access to information on their favourite movies from IMDB and TMDB (The Movie Data Base).

It can be used in two ways - the first method involves simply opening the app and typing in a movie name. The app will then show a list of search results with direct links to THMB and IMDB. IMDB can be linked directly to the IMDB app or website, allowing great integration with your existing Android apps.

The second use is convenient when browsing the net on your phone, particularly when the names of movies online do not link to IMDB. Users can simply highlight the name of the movie, share it to the "Find This Movie" and within seconds you will have convenient links to IMDB and TMDB.

This app is quick, looks good, has great functionality and takes up very little memory. It also includes a search history (which can be sur…

Jetpack Jinx

Today's app of the day is Jetpack Jinx

Jetpack Jinx is a fantastic android game that takes the concept of the 'endless jumper' popularised by Doodle Jump and improves wherever possible. In Jetpack Jinx, players take on the task of getting Jetpack Jinx back into space, by launching him forever upwards through crystals/stars, power-ups and an outrageous array of obstacles and monsters.
Play starts by being launched out of what looks like a venus fly trap, insider a cave. Instead of having to jump off platforms to continue the journey into space, Jinx will continue flying so long as you tilt the device and cause him to ride over what appear to be gems / stars / crystals. These essentially keep his Jetpack burning.

The tilt controls are fantastic with just the right degree of sensitivity, and I really like the way that you can miss a few gems and still continue the upwards journey. It ads a far greater sense of fun then is often experienced in these forms of games. Whilst moving…

Today's app of the day is Str8ts.

If you are a fan of Suduko or other logic based puzzle games, then Str8ts is well worth checking out. However, if you are reading this and thinking "Suduko - meh - been there done that" then don't judge too soon, because the similarities between between the two games are greater than their differences. The outcome is a fantastic logic based puzzle game that stands up on its own two feet against the best in field, well worth checking out. With St8ts now making it's way to the Android platform, there has never been a better time to grab your phone and give your brain a work out.

Developed in 2008, the game derives its name from the poker straight, with the straight being a fundamental element of gameplay. Quoting from Wikipedia:

The solver is given a 9x9 grid, partially divided by black cells into compartments. Each compartment, vertically or horizontally, must contain a straight - a set of consecutive numbers, but in any order. For e…

The Odyssey

Today's app of the day is The Odyssey.

I am sure I am not alone when I say that point and click adventure games hold a special place in my heart. It heralds back to my younger days, playing the Hugo series of games (house of horrors, etc) and moving onto other Lucas / Sierra classics. I know for a fact that Sam and Max Hit the Road will always hold a special place in my gaming memory.

With this as a baseline, I am always excited when I have the opportunity play a modern take on the point and click adventure, and in recent years there have been some great takes on the genre such as Machinarium  and recently, the Room. Thankfully, I can now insert another game into my repertoire of great point and click adventuring, with The Odyssey - an excellent new Android game by CrazySoft.

The Odyssey has mythical underpinnings, with the player taking the role of the Greek hero Odysseus (or Ulysses). From there, the player is tasked with re-living key events from Homer's legend - all through t…

There is no point beating around the bush - The Room is hands down, one of the best mobile gaming experiences you can have. If you do nothing else today, scroll down to the bottom of the page, scan the QR code and download this game immediately. Find a quiet corner, pencil out 2 - 3 hours in your diary and truly sink into a fantastic gaming experience.

With that out of the way, I can go back to basics and tell you a little about The Room. The story starts in a dark room with a cabinet standing in the middle. You open a box and read a letter. From there, you are on your own, the challenge being to essentially 'crack open' the cabinet standing in the middle of the room and to reveal the mysteries of its creator.

This is no mean feat though, and involves some of the best puzzling seen on a mobile device to date. As you progress you will slide levels, decipher visual clues, manipulate keys, build gears, set up film projectors and much more. The …

Ask a Groundhog

Today's app of the day is Ask a Groundhog.

Ask a Groundhog is a kooky new app to hit Google Play which is essentially, a unique twist on a Magic Ball. Open the app - ask a question and see what the groundhog has to say. Don't like the answer, give the screen a tap and seek some retribution!

An excellent app - any Bill Murray fans out there will appreciate this one!

Lekiosk - Newsstand Magazine

Today's app of the day is Lekiosk - Newsstand Magazine.

There are plenty of ways to read on your Android and iOS devices these days. Whether it be through apps such as Flipboard or Feedly, through 'store it later' apps such as Pocket or Instapaper, or simply by browsing the web. However, no such reading experience on a tablet can quite match the experience of picking up a magazine and physically browsing through the pages.
It's not just the act of reading that is better with magazines, but also the quality of the journalism, which unfortunately is missing from a lot of the news and entertainment sources that are often read online. The depth and quality of articles just often isn't there.
A lengthy intro I know, but the point is to introduce a fantastic new Android and iOS app that is trying to bridge that gap between physical and digitial reading experiences through the creation of a virtual newsstand. That app is Lekiosk, and thus far it has proved to be one of the …
