Microsoft is actually a great Android developer - 'To-Do' is another reason why!

It may seem suprising to some, but Microsoft is actually a fantastic Android developer. In fact, I'd go as far to saythat their app offerings for Android are far superior to than their offerings for the Windows App store. For starters the full suite of Microsoft Office apps are great, as is one drive and one note, and the Arrow App Launcher is actually one of the best custom android skins available (seriously - check it out!).

To round this out, over the last few days Microsoft has released 'To-Do' which as you've guessed it - is a to-do list. It really could not be simpler - the app allows the creation of lists and then as part of each list allows tasks and items to be added.

The design is simple and clean, and a nice move away from the boxy interface design that still dominates some of the earlier Windows apps for android. It's fast, lightweight, cloud based (of course) and has a widget - so there is not much more you could ask for!

Want to get KitKat 4.4 now on your Android device today?

I'm a Galaxy Note 2 owner, and I have never been happier with a mobile before. 12 months on and the Note 2 is still one of the most powerful devices on the markets, has an excellent screen, amazing battery and is an absolute pleasure to use. Unfortunately - that pleasure isn't immediately apparent when first booting the device, as Samsung's Touchwiz interface is abysmal - seriously - why is there not drag and drop rearranging functionality (without having to press enter edit mode)!

After using Nova Launcher quite happily for the last 12 months, I started seeing screenshots of KitKat on the Nexus 5 and immediately became envious of the simplicity of the OS - as well as the increased Google Now and search integration. Luckily, thanks to the way the Android Launcher application has been recoded, it is now available for all to try and enjoy. With only a few simple installs you will have an entirely fresh Android experience!

Sure - it wont be an absolute 4.4 experience, but the most prominent Google experience (suing the home screen / widgets) will be. Throw in the ability to update a few core apps (see Step 3), and you will be 80% of the way to having KitKat on your android device - no rooting or flashing needed!

To guide you through the process - I have set things out in a few easy steps.

Step 1 - allow install from unknown sources

I'd say if you are reading this article, you have probable already completed this step - but if you are new to the side-loading scene (installing apps from places other than Google Play), then instructions are here.

Step 2 - install the following three .APKs in order

To install these .APKs simply open Chrome browser on your android device, then click the below links one at a time. Once clicked, download the APK file. Allow Chrome to download the file. It should start downloading on the notification panel. Once it is downloaded, click on the finished file from the notification panel and follow the prompts to install.

1. Google Play Services Update
2. Google Search Update
3. New Google Launcher

After installing file 3 (above), press your home key and click on the new "launcher" icon (and make it a permanent move if you want). If all has gone to plan, then congrats, you will now have the new Google KitKat launcher on your android device!

I have personally tried this on both my Note 2, and my Transformer Prime tablet. In both instances it worked perfectly!

Step 3 - update other apps

If you want an even closer experience to 4.4 Android - there are a variety of other APKs that can be installed. Simply install them from the links below and enjoy!

Step 4 - enjoy!

Below are a few screen shots from my efforts. If you have any questions or need assistance - please ask in the comments.

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Hearthstone - better late than never - the best android card game!

I'll cut to it - Hearthstone is one of the best games you can get for your Android device - in fact, I am sure that plenty of people would argue it is one of the best games you can get at all - even on a PC! With that in mind, there's no reason not to jump in now and start experiencing this great offering from Blizzard.
The gameplay is turn based card strategy, think Magic the Gathering, but fare more simple. Every turn the number of points you have to spend on cards increases, so it means that games start quite evenly handed but can escalate quickly, especially when more experienced players know how to string together the abilities of their cards.
The objective is to eliminate the health of your opponent - and once you succeed the victory is entirely satisfying, with some truly fantastic sounds and effects that drive home the sense of achievement. This is of course a free to play game, and it is possible to spend real world money in the store but it is not required to have …

UNCHARTED: Fortune Hunter - continue Drake's adventure on your phone!

It's been a while now since Uncharted 4 was released though to date it is still one of the best games on the PS4. At the time of its release, a lot of people might not have noticed that an Android entry into the Uncharted series was also released. Now I'm late to the party on this one but I think it's well worth checking out - better late than never!

The game is in the style of the 'Go' games that are really popular, such as Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go. The gameplay sees you move from square to square on a map trying to unlock a series of objectives or reach a destination. It's a polished game with great sound, graphics and gameplay. Strongly recommended!
