Microsoft is actually a great Android developer - 'To-Do' is another reason why!

It may seem suprising to some, but Microsoft is actually a fantastic Android developer. In fact, I'd go as far to saythat their app offerings for Android are far superior to than their offerings for the Windows App store. For starters the full suite of Microsoft Office apps are great, as is one drive and one note, and the Arrow App Launcher is actually one of the best custom android skins available (seriously - check it out!).

To round this out, over the last few days Microsoft has released 'To-Do' which as you've guessed it - is a to-do list. It really could not be simpler - the app allows the creation of lists and then as part of each list allows tasks and items to be added.

The design is simple and clean, and a nice move away from the boxy interface design that still dominates some of the earlier Windows apps for android. It's fast, lightweight, cloud based (of course) and has a widget - so there is not much more you could ask for!

Of course there is lots of co…

Tesla Toy - Coil Wars

Today's app of the day is Tesla Toy - Coil Wars

It is a well known fact that that the Android gaming scene is full of a lot of good ideas, but an even larger number of replicas - games that take an idea and then try to 'get rich quick' without any original thought. It is therefore alway nice when a brand new game comes along with unique and intuitive game play that I have not experienced before. Today, that game is Tesla Toy - Coil Wars.

As with all great mobile games, the gameplay and rules of the game are simple, but the execution is fantastic. In Coil Wars, the object it to touch your glowing sphere and fully charge it before a beam of energy hits it. Once fully charged you keep your finger held down on then beam and absorb between 1 and 10 'teslas' of energy. If you hold on for too long, and try to go past 10, you will overcharge and loose a life - so it becomes a choice of risk verses reward. As the rounds pass the game will increase in difficulty, causing there to be more and more spheres to 'protect' on the screen at a single time. Trust me - this will really test your nerve power and your reflexes.  Each round has 5 lives - lose 5 lives and not surprisingly, the game is over.

Watch the video above if you are still unsure and it will be self explanatory. Luckily, on top of the great gameplay, Tesla Toy - Coil Wars is backed up by excellent sound and really amazing graphics. On my Galaxy Note 8 tablet, the colours and the beams of energy really popped off the screen - this is a well designed and very professionally put together game.

On top of the great single player campaign, the game also features a multiplayer mode. You will have to buy it through the play store (with a link accessible in the game itself), but once you do you will be able to compete simultaneously against up to four of your friends. This is a fantastic feature, I cant not recommend forking out the few dollars enough as you really will have a blast.

All in all, this is truly a great Android game - check it out today.

In the words of the developer:

***** Tesla Toy - Coil Wars is a touch of madness.
Tesla Toy - Coil Wars is a free, fast paced dexterity game for up to 4 people.
Tesla Toy – Coil Wars is a simple, yet frantic dexterity arcade game for 1-4 people.
The goal is Tesla Toy is to capture as much Tesla energy in your sphere as you can each time a bolt of energy is shot out from the Tesla Coil.

RULES
- Hold your finger on the sphere or spheres in multi-sphere play.
- You must have your sphere fully lit and charged BEFORE the energy touches any part of the sphere!
- With your Sphere lit, you can capture 1 to 10 points of Tesla Energy from the energy bolt.
- Capturing 10 points of energy scores the most points but comes with the greatest risk!
- Don't try to capture more than 10 amps of power. If you overcharge the sphere, you LOSE a life!
- You get 5 lives. Run out of lives and the game is over.
- If you try to take more than 10 points of energy your sphere will overload. Make sure you take your finger off the sphere before taking more than 10 points of energy or you will LOSE A LIFE.
- If you do not capture at least 1 point of energy, you will LOSE A LIFE.
- The amount of energy you have captured will count up from 1 to 10 so you know how much you are taking.

HINTS
- BE CAREFUL! Spheres fill with energy quickly. It is better to take fewer points and survive than try to take 10 points each time and overload your sphere.
- The energy bolts will get faster each level

- When playing 2, 3 or 4 finger, accidently lighting the wrong sphere momentarily is ok. Just make sure the correct sphere activated and charged before the energy bolt reaches it

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Hearthstone - better late than never - the best android card game!

I'll cut to it - Hearthstone is one of the best games you can get for your Android device - in fact, I am sure that plenty of people would argue it is one of the best games you can get at all - even on a PC! With that in mind, there's no reason not to jump in now and start experiencing this great offering from Blizzard.
The gameplay is turn based card strategy, think Magic the Gathering, but fare more simple. Every turn the number of points you have to spend on cards increases, so it means that games start quite evenly handed but can escalate quickly, especially when more experienced players know how to string together the abilities of their cards.
The objective is to eliminate the health of your opponent - and once you succeed the victory is entirely satisfying, with some truly fantastic sounds and effects that drive home the sense of achievement. This is of course a free to play game, and it is possible to spend real world money in the store but it is not required to have …

UNCHARTED: Fortune Hunter - continue Drake's adventure on your phone!

It's been a while now since Uncharted 4 was released though to date it is still one of the best games on the PS4. At the time of its release, a lot of people might not have noticed that an Android entry into the Uncharted series was also released. Now I'm late to the party on this one but I think it's well worth checking out - better late than never!

The game is in the style of the 'Go' games that are really popular, such as Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go. The gameplay sees you move from square to square on a map trying to unlock a series of objectives or reach a destination. It's a polished game with great sound, graphics and gameplay. Strongly recommended!
