FaceApp - despite the controversy there's a reason it is popular!

FaceApp is high in the ranks of then Google Play store at the moment, and despite the controversies of white-washing, there's a reason. In short, it's really fun, simple to use and an all round well-designed app that has some great filters and effects.
The purpose of the app is simple - simply load it up, take a photo, play with a few dials and then before you know it there's your desired outcome - whether it be a new gender, a younger self, an older self - etc. You name it - FaceApp can do it.
Check it out today, it's one of those apps well worth downloading and spending a few minutes with!

Review: Candy Cookie Shop

8/10
Today's android review is for a relatively new game called Candy Cookie Shop by developer, Time for Awesome Game. Having only been released on the Google Play store in early November, there is no better time to jump in and try it out!

Put simply, Candy Cookie Shop is yet another gem matching, bejewelled-like game. There's no two ways around it, and the game doesn't try to hide this fact. Realistically, there are probably thousands of games in this style on the Google Play store, though this is not necessarily a bad thing - as the core gameplay is tried and tested, and at the end of the day, good fun.

Now, this may be a strange way to start the review, particularly when you can see that I really liked the app, giving it 8 stars. However there’s no denying that the game-play in Candy Cookie is a very familiar take on the classic match-3 game design. However, just because something has been done before, doesn’t mean it still can’t be a great app. In short,if you like Candy C…

How to create an android app without coding skills?

I recently decided that I wanted Droid App of the Day to have an official app. Now I have absolutely zero coding skills, so I had to be a little creative in how I managed to get the app created. Luckily, there are a few services out there that allow apps to be created without any coding skills.

In my opinion, the best is by far called Andromo. Over the next few months I will post about the apps I create, as well as the process of uploading those apps to Google Play. Hope you enjoy!

Free for a single app, or a low yearly fee for unlimited apps - Andromo allows the creation of apps without any coding abilities. It does through a simple interface where a large number of activities can be added to the app, along with the ability to customise images, icons, etc.

For the official Droid App of the Day app, my priorities were the ability for content to be easily accessed from within the app, the ability for people to watch my video reviews and the ability for information to be catagorised nice a…

Review: Fallout Shelter

8.5/10
Check out my first ever video review!
With the release of Fallout 4, I thought it only appropriate to review Fallout Shelter for Android as my app of the day. It is of course well and truly no longer a ‘new’ app, but for those who haven’t yet played it, I strongly suggest getting on board and giving your hand a try at vault management.

In Fallout Shelter, you play the role as the overseer of a vault. As overseer the fate of the vault and its dwellers is entirely in your hands. The core objectives of the game are to build the size of your vault and increase the number of dwellers - all the while trying to keep everyone happy by appropriately managing your core resources – water, electricity and food – and by completing tasks
Each resource is generated by building rooms (such as a kitchen, a power plant or a water generator) and appointing dwellers into the room. Once the room is up and running it will periodically release resources that you can collect. So long as your resource metr…

DU Speed Booster

Today’s app of the day is DU Speed Booster:

Yesterday I posted a great app by DU Apps called DU Battery Saver. Today I am returning with another great application by the same developer called DU Speed Booster. Saving Battery is one thing, but at times all you really need is a bit of extra speed from your device. Ever notice how by the end of the day your phone is crawling, struggling to open apps and freezing unexpectedly? Well DU Speed Booster is here to solve that problem. With a simply flick of an icon on your home screen, DU Speed Booster will analyse the apps currently running on your device and shut down those that are hogging precious memory. Within seconds, you will see a marked improvement in performance, with your phone operating as smoothly as when it was initially turned on! Best of all, the animations and effects associated with the speed boost (a rocket launching for those that are curious) are fantastic – no joke – I found myself optimising the device just to watch the an…

DU Battery Saver

Today’s app of the day is DU Battery Saver. Managing battery life on a modern smart phone is a constant challenge. As the batteries in our phones have constantly grown in size, as have the screens, and importantly – the intensity of applications we run. Apps run in the background, start without actually being launched, and can have all sorts of processes operating unbeknownst to the user. Although it’s great to have amazing apps – the effect they have on battery life can be problematic. This is where DU Battery Saver steps in. Once installed, the app takes a deep look at your device and provides a large variety of optimisations to improve battery life. Whether it is ‘sandboxing’ certain apps to prevent them from running background processes, moving apps to the SD card, stopping memory hungry notifications, and plenty more – there are optimisations here that will surprise even power users of the Android ecosystem. One of the coolest features I noticed was the great battery cooling funct…
