FaceApp - despite the controversy there's a reason it is popular!

FaceApp is high in the ranks of then Google Play store at the moment, and despite the controversies of white-washing, there's a reason. In short, it's really fun, simple to use and an all round well-designed app that has some great filters and effects.
The purpose of the app is simple - simply load it up, take a photo, play with a few dials and then before you know it there's your desired outcome - whether it be a new gender, a younger self, an older self - etc. You name it - FaceApp can do it.
Check it out today, it's one of those apps well worth downloading and spending a few minutes with!

How to create an android app without coding skills?

I recently decided that I wanted Droid App of the Day to have an official app. Now I have absolutely zero coding skills, so I had to be a little creative in how I managed to get the app created. Luckily, there are a few services out there that allow apps to be created without any coding skills.

In my opinion, the best is by far called Andromo. Over the next few months I will post about the apps I create, as well as the process of uploading those apps to Google Play. Hope you enjoy!

Free for a single app, or a low yearly fee for unlimited apps - Andromo allows the creation of apps without any coding abilities. It does through a simple interface where a large number of activities can be added to the app, along with the ability to customise images, icons, etc.

For the official Droid App of the Day app, my priorities were the ability for content to be easily accessed from within the app, the ability for people to watch my video reviews and the ability for information to be catagorised nice and cleanly (price drops, etc). See the screen shot below for an example of the interface and activity types.

The breadth of apps you could create in Andromo is almost limitless, with quite powerful function able to be utilised with only a few presses. Of course, adding the activities is only one small part of getting an app to look professional. You also need high quality icons, images, etc - all without breaching copyright,

Now, not only can't I code, but I also am not a graphic designer. How then do you create icons for your app? Easy. You don't! Instead, I relied on free icons from Icon Finder which allowed me to make my app look professional with no design skills. Of course, you have to be careful as to the attribution requirements for free icons (most are licensed under Creative Common licences), and luckily, Andromo includes the ability for licensing information to be flashed on the screen of your app the first time it is run!

The final step is high quality images, such as the banners at the top of the screen. In this regard, I used Canva. What is Canva? In short, Canva allows you to create high quality, professional style designs for almost any online purpose in only a few clicks. I simply made a custom sized banner and within a few clicks had some great graphics for my app! I really can't recommend Canva enough!

Once everything is loaded into Andromo, you simply press 'Build' and within a minute or so you will receive an email with the APK file, ready to install on your android device. I really can't say enough good things about Andromo. It is fast, simple enough for beginners and powerful enough for more advanced users, and allows the creation of fantastic android apps without having to enter a line of code. It is great to use and really intuitive.

So how was the finished product? Well I'll let you judge. The official Droid App of the Day App is now on Google Play, ready for anyone to download, so head over and check it out!

Wish - shopping made fun - and easy - and cheap!

These days sites like Amazon or eBay make buying and selling online quick and easy. Unfortunately, sometimes the sheer breadth of products available (everything on earth!) makes it difficult to impulse buy or get the same experience one haves when wandering around a shop or past windows. Luckily, apps now exist to replicate that experience.

The best of the lot is Wish - which has the tagline 'shopping made fun' which could not be more true! When opening the app there are lots of categories to choose from, allowing you to pick the type of products you want to browse and going from there. Buying and checking out is only ever a few clicks away and if you are not careful you will very quickly load up on more products than you need!

I've launched sites that help out with buying cheap gadgets in the past, and it was heavily inspired by apps such as Wish which really allow someone to sit back and take pleasure in the shopping experience again! Download Wish now!

Cosmic Cow

Today's app of the day is Cosmic Cow.

"Endless" games are very in vogue at the moment, whether it be endless running, endless jumping or endless flapping, there are plenty of ways to get unlimited, and challenging gaming fixes. That doesn't mean that there aren't great new games being created in the genre, with Cosmic Cow being one such example.

In essence, Cosmic Cow combines two great styles of game play, one being a side scrolling endless-type game, and the other being the classic side scrolling space ship shooter, popularised in numerous incarnations on 8 and 16 bit consoles of decades past. As a "cosmic cow" (can't help but love it!), the player has to navigate through space, shooting or dodging asteroids and other attacking spaceships. The cow can collect a variety of objects to earn points - though mainly interesting foods that just happen to be floating through space. As points are accumulated, the player can also collect coins to spend on a v…
